International and European Shipping “Elite” meet in Cyprus

The world-known “Maritime Cyprus 2017” Conference was organised for the 15th time, by the Transport Ministry/ Department of Merchant Shipping in cooperation with the Cyprus Shipping Chamber and the Cyprus Union of Shipowners between 8-11 October in Limassol.  This “Shipping Olympics” Conference, which attracted more than 850 shipping related executives from 40 various countries, offered an interactive platform for the international shipping community to review and discuss forthcoming policy and regulatory changes in Global Shipping.

Amongst the array of expert panellists of this three-day Conference, which was officially opened by the President of the Republic, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, high calibre speakers included the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Mr. Kitack Lim, the EU Transport Commissioner, Ms. Violeta Bulc, as well as the Chairman of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), Mr. Esben Poulsen and the President of the European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA), Mr. Niels Smedegaard, thus showing the importance attached to the Conference and to Cyprus Shipping at large.

Following acceptance of a relevant invitation extended, the Cyprus resident Shipping Industry welcomed the European Shipping “elite” to Cyprus by hosting the ECSA’s Annual General Assembly on 9 October 2017, in Limassol.  It should also be mentioned that the same day, the ECSA Board of Directors Members had the opportunity to meet with the EU Transport Commissioner, Ms. Violeta Bulc and discuss several issues affecting EU and International Shipping.

The Cyprus Shipping Chamber express its appreciation to all who have contributed, especially its Member-companies, for this “Cyprus Shipping Olympics” to be yet again, another success and thus, projecting to the international shipping community, the sound shipping infrastructure that Cyprus has developed over the years.
