‘Cyprus Shipping participates at International Shipping meeting - 16-18 May 2018, Hong Kong

The Cyprus Shipping Industry participated once again, among a large number of shipowners and shipmanagers’ associations from across the globe, to the Annual General Meeting of the International Chamber of Shipping held in Hong Kong, between 16-18 May 2018. The Director General of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, Mr. Thomas A. Kazakos, represented the Cyprus Shipping Industry at this important meeting.

During the General Meeting, the President of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, Mr. Themis Papadopoulos, was re-elected as Member of the Board of Directors of the International Chamber of Shipping, thus showing the level of recognition of which, the Cyprus Shipping Chamber holds among the International Shipping community.

The main discussion topics of the ICS Annual General Meeting included, the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) strategy on the further reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by the International Shipping Industry and the implementation of a global fuel sulphur limit of 0.5% which will enter into force in 2020. Additionally, the future role of the ICS was discussed, in terms of the the further enhancement of their work for the benefit of its Members and the International Shipping Industry in general.
