"Maritime Cyprus 2022" Conference

“Maritime Cyprus 2022” Conference was organised by the Shipping Deputy Ministry in cooperation with the Cyprus Shipping Chamber and the Cyprus Union of Shipowners between 9 and 12 October, 2022. Once again, the Conference exceeded all expectations by welcoming hundreds of Shipping Industry leaders, decision-makers and top management from around the globe.

The main theme for this year was “Shipping Response to the 3Cs Crises – Challenges – Competitiveness”, having a focus on important topics relevant to the Shipping Industry, including shifts in established business models, regulatory challenges, environmental protection and the impact of technological transformation.

The Chamber participated this year with a Panel discussion entitled “Collaborating towards Greener Shipping”. The discussion was moderated by Mr. Julian Bray, Editor-in-Chief, TradeWinds with the panel comprising Mr. George Wells, Global Head Assets & Structuring, Cargill International SA, Mr. Nikolaus H. Schües, President Designate of BIMCO, Mr. Claes Berglund, immediate Past President of ECSA, and Mr. Dieter Rohdenburg, Vice President of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber and CEO of our Member-Company, Intership Navigation Co. Ltd.

In addition, the Chamber's President Mr. Themis Papadopoulos, participated under his capacity as ICS Vice Chairman together with the Chamber's Past President Mr. Philippos Philis, ECSA President, at the panel discussion, “Is the International and EU shipping industry ready to respond to the 3 Cs?”. The panel was moderated by Ms. Amie Pascoe, Director at BLUE Communications. Mr. Philis focused on the importance of not underestimating the global decarbonisation challenge, while Mr Themis Papadopoulos emphasised the essential need for investment in renewable energy generation to meet growing demand.

The official Opening Ceremony of the working deliberations of the Conference on Monday, 7 October 2019, were made by H.E. the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades.

Following the Opening Ceremony of the working deliberations of the Conference, there were panel discussions by distinguished guests including the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Mr. Kitack Lim, EU Transport Commissioner, Ms. Adina Valean, proving the significant position Cyprus Shipping holds in the global Shipping arena.
