Dear Guests,
On behalf of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, I warmly welcome you to our 36th Annual General Meeting.
The year 2024 has been marked by continued geopolitical instability and important regulatory developments, especially concerning the environmental agenda. Shipping companies worldwide have had to navigate mounting pressures from ongoing tensions in key maritime regions to the increasing demands of decarbonisation and digital compliance. These challenges have reaffirmed the importance of a united, resilient industry voice, something the Chamber continues to offer with consistency and purpose.
Throughout the past year the Chamber remained active on all fronts, working closely with the Government and key national and international shipping bodies, including the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), the European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) and the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO). Our advocacy efforts have focused on maintaining the global competitiveness of our industry representing our Members effectively, promoting practical and balanced shipping policies and contributing meaningfully to the wider global Shipping dialogue.
At a national level 2024 was a year where unfortunately we did not see significant progress particularly in the development of the One Stop Shipping Centre or indeed the NEPE shipping company. On both these matters, as well as the crucial issue of social security for EU seafarers on Cyprus-flagged ships, the Chamber continues to work closely with the Shipping Deputy Ministry and other relevant Ministries. It is however pleasing to note that both the Cyprus flag and companies registered in the tonnage tax system appear to be growing over recent months.
The Chamber’s work would not be possible without the continued support of our Member-Companies and the close cooperation of our partners in both the public and private sectors. Thank you for your ongoing engagement.
The 2024 Annual Report, available on this webpage, provides a detailed overview of our work during the past year and outlines the key priorities moving forward. We look forward to continuing our efforts to strengthen Cyprus shipping together.
Thank you for joining us today.
