Cyprus Shipping Chamber Marks Day of the Seafarer with Annual Blood Donation Drive

The Cyprus Shipping Chamber successfully carried out the first of its two annual blood donation drives for 2026 on 17 June 2026, at the Limassol Old Hospital Health Centre, as part of its ongoing charitable initiatives under the “Cyprus Shipping Cares” programme. Through “Cyprus Shipping Cares”, established in 2024, the Cyprus Shipping Chamber continues to uphold its long-standing commitment to social responsibility, reinforcing a culture of solidarity within the maritime community and beyond.

The blood donation was symbolically dedicated to the International Day of the Seafarer, observed annually on 25 June by the global shipping community. The commemoration highlights the essential role of seafarers in global trade and the wider world economy, as well as the challenges they face at sea. This year’s theme, “Carrying world trade. Carrying the risks”, draws attention to the demanding realities of life at sea.

In this context, the blood donation drive serves as a gesture of appreciation for the invaluable contribution of seafarers to global trade. The initiative recognises their daily challenges and reflects the Chamber’s continued commitment to supporting their vital work.

It is worth noting that the Cyprus Shipping Chamber has maintained this biannual blood donation drive for the past 33 years, demonstrating the steady support and active participation of employees from its Member Companies, who voluntarily contribute each year to this important cause.

To date, the initiative has collected more than 3,500 units of blood, providing vital support to hospitals in Cyprus and assisting patients in need across the country.
