The first Career Fair - Shipping “A Sea of Careers” held with great success

The Cyprus Shipping Chamber held with great success its first Career Fair, "Shipping – A Sea of Careers", which took place on Sunday, November 18, at the Carob Mill venue, in Limassol.

Members had the opportunity to discuss with a number of Chamber’s Member-Companies, Academic Institutions and Organisations and to be informed about career choices and opportunities within the Shipping Industry. The opening ceremony of the event was attended by the Shipping Deputy Minister, the Ministry of Education and Culture, Limassol Mayor and other officials.

According to the Chamber’s President, Mr. Themis Papadopoulos, during his speech on the event opening ceremony, "this event is an opportunity for young people, students, pupils and the general public, who are interested in following a career in Shipping, to be informed by professionals in all shipping sectors for the right career choices, for educational programs offered within Cyprus and to have an insight of the Cyprus Shipping Industry. "

The Chamber has from the very beginning of its creation recognised the importance of Maritime Education and “Blue Growth”, as a factor that will further enhance the sustainability of the entire Cyprus Maritime Cluster, which in turn, is vital to the economic and social interests of Cyprus.

The implementation of the first Shipping Career Fair therefore, is part of the continuous and wider effort of the Shipping Chamber to educate young people who have a keen interest in professions linked with the Maritime Sector, as well as, the need to continually reconfirm that modern maritime education is the key to stabilise and grow the Shipping Industry and be able to maintain its pace of progress and expansion
