CSC Seminar on latest developments in “E-Navigation”

The Cyprus Shipping Chamber organized, on 31 May 2019 in Limassol, an e-Navigation Seminar entitled “e-Now: An ocean supply chain”. The aim of the Seminar was to update the resident shipping industry on the latest developments on digitalization and electronic navigation of ships.

Expert panelists from across the International Shipping Industry, such as representatives from the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Europe, the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), the Nautical Institute as well as the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) were invited by the Chamber and participated in the Seminar’s three panel sessions.

During the Seminar, the challenges of standardisation for connecting ports, ships and people as well as autonomous systems and technologies were discussed. The need for the crew to be trained and have the necessary skills to use these new technologies and system, was also recognised. In addition, the Seminar attendees exchanged views on how close the Maritime Industry is towards digitalisation and improving operational safety and efficiency.

The Chamber appreciates how important digitalisation and improved efficiency will also be in the efforts to reduce Green House Gas emissions in line with the future goals set by the International Maritime Organisation.
